Saturday, January 18th, an amazing group of musicians gathered in Tulsa, Oklahoma to pay tribute and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks album. The celebration titled “Shelter From the Storm: Celebrating 50 years of Blood on the Tracks,” was held at Cain’s Ballroom, a legendary venue located close to the Bob Dylan Center, who were presenting the evening.
The headliners included Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams and Adam Granduciel, from The War on Drugs. The house band was made up of the group Chatham Country Line, Brad and Phil Cook and Darren Jessee, who is likely best known for his time in Ben Folds Five, alongside several musicians who played on the original album. Also making appearances were Sharon Van Etten, the Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray and Robyn Hitchcock.
While many selections from Blood were performed—Costello played “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” and Williams performed “Idiot Wind”)—the show also featured many other songs, like recently-featured Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy taking a break from their R.E.M. tribute to play “Maggie’s Farm.” Everyone gathered on stage for the closing sing-along of “My Back Pages,” led by Hitchcock.
Thankfully, videos are starting to be posted, so we can all enjoy some of the festivities. Watch a bunch below, and check out the full setlist too.
