One week before heading out on the second leg of their European tour, heavy rock band Lucifer have released a newly recorded cover of the Leonard Cohen song “Who By Fire.” The band are joined by Bobby Liebling from doom metal band Pentagram. With lead singer Johanna Platow Andersson, the two capture the same haunting combination of voices that Cohen used in his version, which featured Janis Ian.
Andersson said of the song: “Growing up with Leonard Cohen’s music, as my mother was a passionate fan, I have always been profoundly touched by his lyrics and gravitated toward this extremely haunting death theme. We are extremely pleased how ‘Who By Fire’ turned into a Lucifer song and Halloween was the perfect occasion to release this morbid work.”
This version starts off very similar to the original, but pretty soon, the crunch of guitars and drums quickly join the voices and we’re off to something more similar to Lucifer’s sound.
