Tuxedomoon’s 1985 new-wave/post-punk single “In a Manner of Speaking” is a deep and affecting song centered around semantics and melancholy. And now, Israeli producer and DJ Guy Gerber got together with the female vocalist Desire to make this feel far more deep-house, techno, and dancey.

From the ’80s vibe, to synth-wave echos and heartbeat bass drum, and the ethereally airy vocals up top, the cover is a complete psychedelic blossoming of sounds. The video tells a black-and-white nostalgic story, and features a mysterious woman in sunglasses, a guitarist. As the duo takes the seed of dance music and amplifies it, we watch the noir-style film overlapping with trippy edits. This cover manages to harken back to the seed of underground punk while managing to be a complete genre-swap.

“I’ve been dying to share something really close to my heart — my cover of Tuxedomoon’s ‘In A Manner Of Speaking’ that I worked on with my dear friend, Guy Gerber,” says Desire. “This song has always held a special place in my heart, and creating this version together was such a beautiful, emotional journey. We performed it in Paris, Ibiza, and London over the summer, and every time it felt like the music wrapped the room in something magical.”
