Remember Yellowcard, the rock band that first formed in Florida in the late 90’s? The alt-indie musicians recently took to Instagram with some exciting news: Their cover of “A Whole New World” is now out.
Pop-punk fanatics have been reeling at the concept of A Whole New Sound: the Disney album with features reimagined tunes by alternative/pop-punk artists. From Mayday Parade to We the Kings, to The Plain White T’s, Meet Me At the Altar and more, the list of bands on this album is impressive and exciting.
The group posted the following on their Instagram announcing the release:
“OUT NOW! Our reimagined version of “A Whole New World” featuring @chrissycostanza is now available wherever you stream your music. There’s also a brand new music video (check our bio or stories) and a live performance this weekend at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival! Check out the full album “A Whole New Sound” on @disneymusic and let us know what you think” -Yellowcard
Yellowcard’s version of “A Whole New World” begins with medium-heavy drums and a freshly composed guitar riff. The beat establishes a heavy emphasis on two, making it feel a little less ethereal, and a little more gritty. As the bass drum comes in with its pleasantly solid eighth notes, the guitar switches to a midwest-emo-type-arpeggiation. And once featured artist (aka the princess) Chrissy Costanza comes in, two voices melt into one another. The song ends like a classic Yellowcard tune would: with a pensive heart-rending violin line.
