One of my favourite things is seeing bands play tribute to other musicians as a part of their live shows, something Coldplay have a good track record of doing. While performing in Vienna, lead singer Chris Martin made reference to Taylor Swift‘s cancelled shows in the city, and asked Maggie Rogers and two dedicated Swifties from the audience to join him in a cover of Swift’s massive hit “Love Story.”
It takes about two words for the crowd to catch into spirit of the cover, singing along with Chris as he strummed the melody on his acoustic guitar. Rogers then joined in to add her sublime vocals to the performance in the chorus and second verse, turning the mic to the on-stage Swifties for further support.
“Please don’t put this on YouTube,” said Martin to the crowd. “If it’s bad, I don’t want to get in trouble with Taylor.” Fortunately for us, it is on YouTube, and fortunately for them, it wasn’t bad. Check it out below.
