Courting is a collection of rockers straight out of Liverpool, England. As fans await the arrival of their newest album New Last Name the group decided to release an unrestrained and boisterous cover Olivia Rodrigo’s 2023 hit “Bad Idea Right?” When the band posted a snip of their cover on Instagram, they joked that it’s “Maybe better than [their] new album.”
Whereas the original Guts tune was groovy with sassy, fuzzed-out vocals and airy harmonies, Courting’s version begins with a different energy entirely. The introduction has jammy-wailing guitars, and the descending line has a much broodier, darker feeling. Courting has created a dramatic gritty indie version of the song. It is almost as if “Bad Idea Right?” was being performed by an energetic punk group in a pub (rather than a clean and cheeky pop song).
