As soon as Between You & Me’s leader singer opens his mouth, playful saying “Shoutout, Shrek!,” we know we are in for an energizing sonic treat with the band’s Like a Version cover of Smash Mouth’s “All Star.”
The lead vocals are reminiscent of other 1990s California rock bands (like Third Eye Blind as one Youtube commenter pointed out). As a whole, this live cover provides the perfect balance between fresh and nostalgic. The subtle background vocals, vocal harmonies, and spot-on rap-rock timbres were spot-on. Meanwhile, the six instrumentalists (five guitars, a bass, and drums) remain locked in and rockin’ the whole time.
