arm's length mcr

Arm’s Length is an alt/emo band from Ontario, Canada. They first began making music in 2018 as a trio (Allen Steinberg, and Jeff and Jeremy Whyte), and last year, they added their bassist Benjamin Greenblatt. In 2021, the group found wildfire success on the clip of their tune “Watercolour.” And now they’ve treated us to a cover of My Chemical Romance. It’s a take on “I Don’t Love You” that balances spot-on timbres and instrumentation, but has a bit of a different take on the vocals.

As the bright opening chords, and arpeggios make their appearance, we get a distinct sense of nostalgia. Steinberg’s vocal placement is decidedly further back than Gerard Way, resulting in an ever-so-slightly more mellowed-out feeling in the song.  But then, about a minute in, the addition of the upper harmony and a good dose of vocal grit propel the cover forward and up the intensity. By the time we get to the huge vocal stack in the chorus supported by the locked-in drums and guitars, it’s showstopping.
