Previewing his new album Something to Give Each Other, Troye Sivan recently performed in the BBC Radio 1 Lounge. Along with his own song “Rush,” he did a stripped-down cover of Billie Eilish’s Barbie soundtrack song “What Was I Made For.”

For this cover, Sivan chose to keep the background music a minimalist bed of synths, which allowed his pure, melancholy-tinged voice to blossom. Doing away with the rhythmic piano and slow swell of the original made his cover remarkably different from the others out there. Not to mention, the artist’s stage presence is magnetic. He sings encompassed in his own feelings, unaware of onlookers, as if he were alone in the woods.
