S.N.A.K. is a music duo that consists of members Marcello Maccagnan (Bass) and Maxime Cholley (Drums). Maccaganan and Cholley hail from Brazil and France respectively, and offer a collaborative fusion of sound. On their new instrumental video cover of Tears for Fear’s “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Maccagnan’s gentle fingerpicked bass at the beginning of the cover is tonally pure and satisfying. Cholley smiles as he matches the energy, playing softly on the cymbals and snare.
As a whole, S.N.A.K. has successfully captured the head-bopping momentum of the Tears For Fears tune, sans lyrics. One minute in and things start to get a bit funky, jazzy, and ornamental. Marcello Maccagnan and Maxime Cholley are experts at little mini flourishes and slight timbral differences. This cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is an exploration of rhythmic modulations. Snarky Puppy fans will certainly enjoy this tight-knit duo. As we make our way to the end, we go through several seasons of these rhythmic modulations: feeling the liveliness of summer, and the laid-back chill of fall.
