Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has finally gotten himself back into the recording studio. He recently released a cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s monster hit “Driver’s License,” recorded at world-renowned Abbey Road Studios along with a new, chilled-out version of his song “Forget Me,” for Spotify.

In Capaldi’s hands, “Drivers License” is a lamentation. His version is full of bell-like piano hits and tasteful strings. He surprised us all by showing off his mellow and low chest voice. By the time the pre-chorus hits, low-strings worm their way into our hearts. Verse 2 mixes up things texturally. The pizzicato adds a forward-feeling motion to the section. Pared-down B section that is gasp-worthy,  that crescendos, decrescendos into the final chorus. 

 If the song wasn’t as popular as it was, we’d think it was an original. Capaldi really made this one his own, be sure to check it out below:
