Since the fourth season of Stranger Things premiered back in May, Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up that Hill” has been absolutely everywhere in North America. And it’s not going anywhere. Billboard currently has this 35-year-old song as the #5 song in their “Songs of the Summer” rankings and no, I did not make that up. After numerous faithful covers of “Running Up That Hill” since young people realized it was a song that existed, we’ve now entered the gimmick phase of the rediscovery of this song (that was already really famous in the UK,). I, for one, am pretty happy about this.

Legendary YouTuber Anthony Vincent of “Ten Second Songs” fame is here to save us from all the new covers that sound too much like the original. Because he’s given us “Running Up That Hill” as if it was Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” another song recently given a second life by Stranger Things. And it works. Vincent nails Hetfield’s voice and his fellow YouTubers capture the sounds of peak ’80s thrash metal. It’s not Metallica exactly, and it’s certainly not “Master of Puppets,” but as a gimmicky cover of “[hit song] as [other famous song]” it works pretty damn well.
