George Perris is a Greek-French singer-songwriter who speaks (and sings) fluently in many languages including English, French, Spanish, and Greek. His latest cover of a Billie Eilish song, “My Future” feels jazzy in almost a Michael Buble or Josh Groban sort of way. And while we’re not sure that many alt-pop fans can get behind it, if you like modern jazz-pop ballads, you’re in for a luscious tune.
Musically, we are started off with haunting vocal “ah”s, enveloping synth risers, oceanic sounds, and sighs. Then the sounds of the waves crescendo into a surprisingly pure version of the song, with emotive violins, orchestral percussion, and subtle guitar. There’s a stark textural change into the lilting 6/8 jazz waltz by the first chorus. Later, we get an exotic and dance-worthy section that makes us feel like we’re in the middle of an aside by the main character in a Broadway show. Check it out below.
