Ahead of the highly anticipated Yoko Ono tribute album Ocean Child, curated by Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, Japanese Breakfast have released their contribution for the album, a modern version of “Nobody See Me Like You Do.”

Gone are the church bells, poppy beat and yearning guitars from Ono’s original – replaced by just a longing voice and simple piano melody. While both songs communicate the pain of losing someone, Japanese Breakfast’s stripping back of the song really highlights the strength of Ono’s song-writing.
