I always look with interest when there’s a new Hank Williams cover released, as the brilliant simplicity of his songs means there’s plenty of room for an artist to add their spin on the track. William Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge Boys has released his version of Williams’ classic hit “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)” for his upcoming album Country Roads: Vintage Country Classics.

Golden has picked up the pace slightly from the original, turning it from a wistful tune into the perfect track to soundtrack a jamboree or big southern family get together. The piano is jaunty and playful, the guitars nice and perky and you can hear the joy in Golden’s voice as he sings. While we’re just coming out of summer, I would wager that this track will definitely be used to soundtrack many of the remaining nice evenings before winter sets in.
