To celebrate Lady Gaga’s seminal 2011 album Born this Way turning 10 this year, the album is being re-released with a bonus disc of covers performed by prominent LGBTQIA+ artists. The first track to be released from this bonus disc is Big Freedia’s cover of “Judas,” the second single released from Born this Way.
Incorporating elements from the New Orleans bounce genre Freedia helped popularize, the track has been transformed from a dance floor banger into a shout-out-able anthem. The beat is biblically large, with the chorus backed with marching band style drum fills and horn section. If you weren’t singing along with the original, you’ll now be screaming out the chorus with this track. As venues and festivals begin to open up, I’m hoping that this track will become a staple of Big Freedia’s live shows. Check out the track below.
