When James Taylor was unable to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week due to illness, The Killers gracefully filled the shoes. Not only did The Killers perform their most recent song “Land of the Free” as well as the Hot Fuss classic “All These Things That I’ve Done,” they also put their spin on a JT standard “Carolina in My Mind”.
The cover is appropriately reverent, with Flowers staying true to the melody and the band to the accompaniment. The gorgeous chorus harmonies remain to evoke that wistful feeling in the lyrics. With a gleam in his eye, a crooked smile, and his signature storytelling delivery, Flowers simultaneously pays tribute to a legend and endears us to him.
An apparently healed Taylor continues his Caesar’s Palace residency in Las Vegas while The Killers play several festivals this summer including KAA-BOO Texas, Glastonbury in the UK, and Woodstock 2019. The Killers are also working on a follow up album to 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful, which is expected to arrive next year.
