The Fontaines are a brother-sister duo – Charlotte and Hank – who live in LA and are inspired by Lesley Gore and Peggy Lee, so it’s not surprising they’d be Lana Del Rey fans as well. And on their new cover of “Young and Beautiful”, which we’re happy to premiere below, they do the former Ms. Lizzie Grant justice.
The template starts out very Lana-y: stately keys, flecks of electronics, gentle crooning. Except that crooning is in French, and their mixed-language cover only grows more unusual from there. “My favorite songs are ones I wish I had written,” says Charlotte Fontaine. “That line ‘Will you still love me when I’m no longer young, and beautiful?’ can easily adapt itself into any person’s life. Young, or old. Alone, or in love. I will never forget that line. This song moves me. I hope we did it justice with our Francophile version.”

Thanks for listening y’all! There’s actually no keys or electronics on this song – what you’re hearing is a bass going through a lot of weird effects :)
