Kanye West‘s latest G.O.O.D Music signee, Chicago artist Nigel Holt, (formerly “Hollywood Holt”) releases an angst-ridden and synth-laden covers collection titled Cover Me (editor’s note: good title!) featuring remakes of artists ranging from the late Amy Winehouse to indie acts such as Florence + The Machine and the Neighborhood.
Having remained relatively quiet since signing on to Kanye’s record label, the multi-talented rapper and producer HXLT finally lets loose with a 5-track covers EP that tackles Amy Winehouse, Billy Idol, Florence + The Machine, Drake and The Neighborhood – offering a small glimpse into what HXLT has to offer in the future.
HXLT takes the tracks head-on, touching up his choices with haunting synths, chugging guitars, and instrumentation providing an overall dissonant and eerie vibe. Never has Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days” sounded so gloomy, nor Winehouse’s “Back To Black” so alien. “White Wedding” by Billy Idol sounds like something akin to a Nine Inch Nails track, while “Sweater Weather” by the Neighborhood and “Pound Cake” by Drake seem to follow in the same vein.
For those of you looking for an interesting covers EP, Cover Me may be the one – check it out below.

The Back to Black sounds a lot like the Bey & Andre 3000 cover in The Great Gatsby.
