Graduate of Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music and producer to such acts as SZE (TDE), Teri Gender Bender (Le Butcherettes) and Kail (Hellfyre Club), Kate Ellwanger treats us to three strikingly chill covers via her About Us EP.

Operating under the moniker dot, Ellwanger takes on Jai Paul’s “BTSTU,” XXYYXX’s “About You,” and Radiohead‘s “Videotape” – taking us down a dreamy downtempo path ripe with heavy hitting synth waves and dot’s own honeyed vocals.

Although having enjoyed both “About You” and “BTSTU,” it is the EP’s last track which originally drew me to it. While Radiohead covers pique my interest like no other,  I tend to approach them very warily – covering the English quintet is a rare act well done, yet Ellwanger succeeds in delivering an eery and compelling take on the slow-burn tune, ultimately satisfying my craving (and maybe even yours) for yet another Radiohead rework.

All-in-all, the EP’s tracks don’t stray far from their origins, dot instead opting for covers grounded in preserving the overarching laid-back experience, downbeat thrills and swirling mix of electronica.
