Ben Howard’s talent lies in the art of stripping down playful synth pop jams and spewing out chill inducing, moody acoustic reworks.
The latest in the English singer-songwriter’s cover repertoire: Kiesza’s “Hideaway.” Those already familiar with his work might recall his intimate reinvention of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and this performance plays out no differently.
Howard’s icy vocals gently flow alongside lone guitar strumming and high pitched plucking, consequently denying “Hideaway” its playful synth-pop nature and instead opting for a slow, mellow and ultimately haunting sensation.
The Master of Melancholy’s cover was performed during his recent visit to BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge – check it out down below.
