Bob Dylan has a long list of love ballads, but only a few that are warm and tender – the kind that, in the wrong hands, can turn a little too sweet and saccharine. One of these is “Make You Feel My Love,” from Dylan’s 1997 album, Time Out of Mind. Shara Worden, aka My Brightest Diamond, recently released a simple arrangement of “Make You Feel My Love” as a present to her fans.

Dylan’s version featured acoustic piano with his gruff voice providing just enough grit to keep the song from wandering too far down a sentimental lane. My Brightest Diamond flips that approach. Her voice is sweet and pure, but the lone accompaniment is a reverb-soaked electric guitar with noticeable distortion dialed in. It’s the balance of smooth and rough, coarse and fine, that makes both versions of this song beautiful and sincere.
