Although the original British series The Office concluded ten years ago, Ricky Gervais’s hard to watch character David Brent is still alive and well. Recently, Gervais has started a guitar tutorial series in the vein of this persona with original songs. “Slough,” a song about David Brent’s hometown, earned itself a hip fan with Toro y Moi.
“dear ricky, hope you like this cover. peace, chaz,” tweeted Toro y Moi’s Chaz Bundick. Gervais posted the cover himself, saying it is amazing, and it is. Bundick manages to take a song about a dismal small town and turn it into an earnest, smooth, reverbed tune.
