For most, Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” brings to mind raunchy teen comedies of the 90s or one of the first NOW compilations. The upbeat and catchy song is hardly ever cited for its dark lyrics, which talk about crystal meth use and the inability to escape the addiction (yeah – Google it). The C’Mons, however, took a stripped down approach to the 90s anthem, revealing a little more of its darker tone.

The Toronto-based band decided to do the cover based on a vote by its fans, and the result is rather interesting. Hearing the Third Eye Blinds’ lyrics at a less frantic pace makes the song seem darker, giving a less bubblegum look at serious drug abuse. The video is also minimal, showing the band spread around a living room for this austere but still alluring rendition.
