Every so often, a cover comes along that brings a song either back into the spotlight or further into it. To anyone who loves the movie Drive, “A Real Hero” by College and Electric Youth is immediately recognizable. That being said, it’s most recognized as “the song from Drive” even by that particular audience.
Now, Dublin’s Kid Coy have brought the song (and themselves) out of the darkness with a beautiful acoustic cover. Where the original’s vocals are ambient and synthy, Kid Coy’s are smooth and intelligible; where the original is saturated with a new wave feel, the cover is organic without being folksy. The structure of the song may remain the same, but Kid Coy’s rendition mines it for a subtler beauty and achieves that goal magnificently.
