Let it never be said that Leonard Cohen songs fit a mold. Sure, he may carry the image of the rumbled old poet (who inspires sexual harassment suits), but his songs can go anywhere. Case in point: two wildly different covers that have recent graced our inbox.

Longtime Cover Me favorite Allison Crowe delivers a barebones template of “Bird on the Wire.” Her stripped-down version isn’t anything that hasn’t been done before, but it shows just how affective this can still be in the right hands (and voice).

KASHKA, meanwhile, takes Leonard way into left field with dance beats and a spooky, Fever Ray-ish electro undercurrent on “Everybody Knows.” The new project of Forest City Lovers’ Kat Burns, the group releases their debut Vichada this month.
