LP’s cover of Leadbelly’s blues classic “In The Pines” is distinguished by her use of the ukulele. Traditionally found to be an instrument in jazz more than blues, LP manages to keep the integrity of “In The Pines” while still taking the risk to experiment with style.
LP performs in, presumably, a loft, which explains the way her voice echoes throughout the song. With impeccable whistling skills, and a rusty voice that is softened by the ukulele, this is a noteworthy cover. Watch below.
