It’s very, very likely that no one will ever sing “I Will Always Love You” as well as the late Whitney Houston did, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s not worth a try. Good thing hard rocker Chris Cornell decided to take a chance on the track because, if he hadn’t, the world would have never been able to witness such an unexpected surprise of a cover.
Even the audience at Cornell’s February 16 performance in San Francisco didn’t realize right away what he was singing, but, once they did, the cheers ensued. Of course, Cornell is a talented vocalist in his own right — as he clearly proves through his performance — so that part wasn’t so surprising. But there’s just something about a man, his guitar, and a well-loved Whitney Houston song — they’re bound to get you every time, even when you least expect it.
