“Life Is a Highway,” one of Tom Cochrane’s best-known songs, has been a road-trip mixtape staple since its release back in 1990. Its upbeat, catchy chorus invites even the worst singers to belt along to the lyrics, and, recently, it caught the ears of Canadian indie folk band Folly and the Hunter.

The trio – two parts Canadian, one part British – created a slowed-down cover that sounds better fit for thoughtful, quiet driving than for speeding down a highway. Nick Vallee offers his vocals as lead and is backed in harmonies by Laurie Torres and Christopher Fox. All three play various acoustic instruments, switching them up throughout the song, to lend to its softer feel. Watch for yourself below.
