Last summer, Amanda Palmer released her version of Nirvana’s “Polly” as part of SPIN’s Newermind compilation. She now offers a video for her stark banjo-driven take, focusing on the dark story behind the lyrics.

She described the inspiration for the video on her blog as focusing on the song’s back story of the abduction, torture, and rape of a 14-year old. The girl in this version is a bit older, but the helpless feeling of being trapped is the same. Watch the video below, then read Palmer’s full description on her blog.
