Despite initial detractors, Lana Del Rey’s album Born to Die debuted at #2 a few weeks ago. Moreover, judging by the number of covers churning out, her fellow musicians seem to be pretty unequivocally behind her. We’ve fallen behind with some recent LDR covers, so we’re gonna put ‘em together in a big roundup post.
First up, Amanda Palmer followed up her dark Nirvana cover video with a less serious chiptune version of “Video Games.” Palmer’s had some mixed things to say about Lana on Twitter, but she sure sells the song here singing over a chiptune version with Australian DJ Dot-Ay.

Speaking of chiptune…the inevitable video game-themed cover of “Video Games” comes from Leeni, who uses clips from a Barbie game to accompany the chiptune bleeps and bloops. Check it out below, then check some other covers in her band Prom Queen here.

Last October, Penguin Prison released a killer dance remix of “Blue Jeans.” They have now covered their own remix for KCRW, keeping the electropop beats but adding their male vocals.

Now that you’re in a dancing mood, keep the party going with the Young Professionals poppy, indie-club-ready “Video Games.”

Maverick Sabre stopped by the Live Lounge recently and he didn’t cover one buzzworthy song: he did two. “Video Games” and Emili Sande’s “Heaven” blend beautifully on an emotive, string-and-piano performance.

Upstate New York duo Vacation just released a killer covers EP called Transmissions. It’s free on Bandcamp and includes a folky, warped “Blue Jeans.”

The Arkells go even folkier on their “Video Games,” which is all high-string plucking and delicate confessional.

Finally, Sky Ferriera strips “Blue Jeans” down to its most basic elements: electric piano and pouty chanteusse attitude.
