At first blush, a reggae cover of dubstep might seem like a novelty. Until, that is, you remember where the “dub” in “dubstep” comes from. Peter Tosh doing Skrillex might stretch the imagination, but reggae-pop band the Skints covering dubstep-pop Katy B (already a sensation in Britain, still breaking stateside) comes much more naturally.
The East London quartet tackles “On a Mission,” which hit number one on the U.K. Indie and Dance charts, but wasn’t even released across the pond. The Skints’ version proves higher energy than your more laid-back styles of reggae, and features an added rap verse from singer Marcia Richards. Stream it below.
