There is a definite safety in covering top 40 pop songs these days, and it becomes pretty obvious when scanning through the endless Gaga, Britney and Rihanna covers. However, this doesn’t always mean that the cover artist has to play it safe. In the case of singer-songwriter Sarah WintersFind Restless Cover EP, audiences are lucky enough to get some refreshing covers of Kanye West‘s endlessly covered hit “Runaway,” Rihanna‘s risque “S&M,” as well as covers of Usher and Frank Ocean.

The Minnesota native may have chosen the songs because of their popularity, but she still took the opportunity to make each song her own on this 4 song EP. The most interesting choice is probably her cover of Rihanna’s controversial “S&M.” Winters does a great job of reminding us just how nice some top 40 songs sound with only delicate vocals and a little piano. Download “S&M,” then buy the EP here by donation of $1 US or more.
