Touring behind acclaimed new album Ashes & Fire last month, Ryan Adams began covering Ratt’s 1984 smash “Round and Round.” Only shaky YouTube videos surfaced, but two days ago he dropped by NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday for a quick interview and performance.
Adams has long been an avowed metal lover – remember Orion? – so covering Ratt comes as no surprise. Instead of just geeking out, though, he bridges two of his favorite genres, creating a beautiful alt-country ballad out of the glam hit. Few can deliver with just a guitar like Adams can and he turns a song many think of as a joke into a sincere declaration. Listen below.
