R.E.M. may have broken up a few months ago, but there are always more bootlegs to listen to. Consequence of Sound points to a recording on YouTube of the quartet covering ABBA’s “Does Your Mother Know” back in 1984. It’s an obscure recording from a Buffalo bar show now available for widespread enjoyment for the first time.

The group was still in its infancy and didn’t have enough material to fill a full-length set, so the setlist is chock-full of covers. They groove through this ABBA song with (apparently) some onstage volunteers dancing with the band. Listen to it below, then, to hear how they fare on ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, and the Mamas and the Papas, download the full bootleg at Gothic Addiction.
