Boston songwriter Faces on Film (Mike Fiore) popped up here for the first time a few weeks ago, performing some covers with his tourmate Marissa Nadler. Now he’s recorded a song on his own, a shimmering cover of Tom Waits’ “Tell Me.”
If “Tell Me” doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because it’s off his just-released album Bad As Me. Not only that, but it’s one of three bonus tracks only on the deluxe version. Like many Waits covers, it swaps out the love-it-or-hate-it gutter growl for gentle crooning and sensitive acoustics. Whether or not Waits’ sound is your thing, it’s hard to object to this moving performance. Listen below.
