When we first checked in with indie-gal supergroup Wild Flag back in March, no one quite knew what their deal was. They’d played some shows, but hadn’t released any songs or announced concrete plans. It seemed entirely possible this would turn out to be a quick lark by some bored rock vets.
Seven months later, we know these four are for real. Their self-titled debut has gotten reviews as enthusiastic as anything out this year and the group is playing sold-out shows all over the country. At once recent show in D.C., the group added two new covers to their repertoire. “We just learned this one today at soundcheck,” Carrie Brownstein proclaims before they lay into the Ramones’ “Judy Is a Punk.” The follow it with Television’s “See No Evil.” Download the MP3s below, via NPR’s concert stream, and watch a video (with poorer audio) after that.
