Copenhagen-born singer-songwriter Oh Land is no stranger to indie covers. Earlier this year she took on Fleet Foxes’ “White Winter Hymnal,” and this week she found time in her busy schedule touring with Katy Perry to take on The National’s “Bloodbuzz Ohio.” Like “Hymnal,” her cover of “Bloodbuzz” brightens up the original track significantly.

Oh Land’s cover reimagines “Bloodbuzz” with less intensity than The National’s original, favoring synths and subtle percussion. The softer arrangement lets her voice take center stage, entirely changing the tone of the track. Swapping Matt Beringer’s baritone for Oh Land’s brighter vocals gives the bittersweet “Bloodbuzz” a more cheerful spin.
