In January 2010, Oakland indie-popper Antarctica Takes It! launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his new album Constellations. With Kickstarter, the artist gives various incentives to encourage higher donations. In this case, if a user donated $120, he or she got a personal cover of any song in the world. Two fans stepped up, Antarctica Takes It! recorded two covers of who-knows-what, and that was all we heard. Until now.

Many months later, one of the fans just sent us the cover he purchased. It’s a stripped-down version of the National’s “Apartment Story” and we’re happy to give it a wider audience. As the owner tells us, “It’s really only been heard by me, a few of my friends, and a member or two of The National.” Download it below, then check out the completed Constellations album at Bandcamp.
