With this month marking the twenty year anniversary of Nevermind, this has indeed been the summer and early fall of Nirvana covers. While there’s been a fair deal of diversity among these covers, most seem to be tributes not only to the album and to Cobain, but to their legacy of early-’90s grunge. Porcelain Raft’s cover of “Come As You Are”, quite frankly, doesn’t even remotely fall under that category.

Instead, the man behind the one-man band – composer Mauro Remiddi – delivers something slow and chill and haunting, ambient and ethereal. And still, all of this overlays a light, 8bit melody. It’s a disparate assortment of sounds that comes together to beautiful effect.
