Lollapalooza Covers Roundup: Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Lykke Li, Foster the People, Ween and More
Festivals often entice artists to perform covers. What better way to convert the uninitiated than by drawing them in with a song they know and then (ideally) hooking them by transforming it into your sound? This past weekend’s Lollapalooza, though, seemed to offer even more cover performances than usual. Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune even christened Saturday “#80snight” to keep track of all the ‘80s covers performed.
We already heard one Lolla cover, with the Mountain Goats covering Styx’s “Babe” (from September 1979, which almost fits the trend). Now we present a more complete roundup of covers performed at Lollapalooza. Below, find videos of covers performed by Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Lykke Li (x2), Foster the People, Young Man, A Perfect Circle, The Vaccines, Lissie, Patrick Stump, Ween, and Walk the Moon. These last two, in face, actually cover the same song, David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” (from, you got it, the ‘80s).
Note: We know of at least a dozen more covers that don’t have videos circulating yet. If you find any, please let us know in the comments. Follow @covermesongs on Twitter to find out when we update this post with more.
