Pavement has never been a band that has been loved by one gender more than the other. However, in just the past year alone, the iconic ’90s band has been covered mostly by dudes (like Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Surfer Blood, and Benjamin Shaw). Now, Finland singer-songwriter Astrid Swan steps up to the plate to bat for the females with a Pavement cover album aptly titled Pavement for Girls, set for release in August of this year. Check out two tracks below.

After finding success in her native Finland as a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter known for her sweeping melodies, Swan decided to go another, harder rock route for her second album, Spartan Picnic. On the follow-up, she decided to continue with the new energy and pay tribute to a band that she loved for years. Starting in late 2010, Swan produced and mixed the set of Stephen Malkmus and Company’s tunes. Swan also uses her own brand of dreamy vocals, synths and instruments to truly craft a Pavement 2.0 and a more feminine perspective on the band’s witty and poetic songs.
