Band of Horses is a band praised for the utter beauty that they constantly bring to every song they craft. On many of their songs, like “No One’s Gonna Love You” (Best Cover of 2010), “Marry Song,” or even “Our Swords”, the band tackles heavy topics like love, loss and death with delicate words and effortlessly gorgeous music. Their song “The Funeral”, a tribute to the feeling of emptiness that comes with losing someone you love, is no exception: while the song starts out slow and sad, it finishes on a shining, hopeful note with heavy drums and guitars and a declaration of “and every occasion/I’ll be ready for the funeral.”

Copenhagen Collaboration, a group of eleven bands from Denmark, has just released a video of their own take on “The Funeral.” While we wouldn’t say it’s an improvement on the near perfect original, the Copenhagen musicians have certainly made the track their own. Adding a xylophone as well as lead female voices, the Collaboration has made the music match the song’s already intimate and heartfelt lyrics. The version is a more pared down, acoustic version of the song that highlights the fragility and vulnerability of the ideas of funerals, loss, and sadness. All that despite the fact that there seems to be about 20 people participating. Check out the video below:

  1. Gotta be one of their most covered tunes. Favorite chilling version, Serena Ryder.
