After Superchunk frontman Mac McCaughan performed covers of Bruce Springsteen’s “Bobby Jean” and Jay Reatard’s “My Shadow” and the full band recorded a John Cale Christmas song, it’s finally time for Superchunk themselves to get the covers treatment. Seattle’s indie wunderkind Telekinesis (aka Michael Benjamin Lerner) just released a cover of Superchunk favorite “Nu Bruises.”

Back in April, Telekinesis said he covered Belle & Sebastian over Jawbreaker because the latter “would sound too much like our band.” Apparently he has abandoned such concerns. Lerner opts to keep all of the noise and raw power of the North Carolina band’s original. It’s more homage than reinterpretation, keeping the simplicity of the chorus “Nu bruises aren’t bruises” alive. It offers a welcome remembrance of the greatness of the ‘90s Superchunk and a reason to dig out your copy of Indoor Living. Listen below. (via Alt Press)
