Joining the ranks of the thousands of artists who have covered the Beatles, Oregon musician Jared Mees and his band the Grown Children recently took on “All Together Now.” The release of the track coincides with the arrival of the group’s new album, Only Good Thoughts Can Stay.

An almost absurdly cheery track in the Beatles incarnation, Mees’ “All Together Now” maintains an upbeat atmosphere but is a little less twee than the original. Mees and his band infuse their cover with some loping, Strokes-mimicking guitar and add an instrumental intro that stretches the track far beyond the original two minutes. Despite dressing up “All Together Now” with indie rock accessories, Mees and the Grown Children don’t lose the innocent, collective spirit, with various band members piping up for vocals during the chorus. The quick nod to “Day Tripper” they sneak into the bridge adds a clever nod to the Fab Four. (via Magnet)
