We don’t stumble across all that many hip-hop covers here at Cover Me. The ones we do get are often in some other genre – either an instrumental or electropop or country-fried cover devoid of any actual rapping. Delightfully, this isn’t the case with Boston duo Karmin’s latest.

It’s no surprise that the two, Nick and Amy, are enormously talented, having met at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. On their cover of the Lil Wayne featuring Cory Gunz track, “6 Foot 7 Foot,” Amy brings that flow, delivering it with the kind of verve that you would expect from Weezy himself. What’s more, she somehow manages to make censorship fun, keeping the song clean for the younger folks who would inevitably idolize a twosome like this, without stripping out the fun. Nick’s piano and backing vocals hang tight – as talented as the guy clearly is, it can’t be easy to keep up. Watch the video and download the MP3 below.
