Playing their brand of sunny garage-pop, Best Coast burst onto the indie scene with last year’s Crazy For You, thanks to significant pre-release buzz in the blogosphere. The buzz came courtesy of the excitement generated by the release of a couple of EPs and singles in 2009 – especially Make You Mine, which featured a cover of The Beach Boys’ “In My Room.” Now the folks over at Daytrotter have sifted through their archive and brought us a late 2009 session with Best Coast featuring said cover.

Their take on the song could easily pass as a mid-’60s garage band cover. Instead of a contemplative pace and tight harmony, singer Bethany Cosentino deconstructs the harmony and strums her guitar vigorously, accompanied by Bobb Bruno’s loud, echo-laden drums. The unexpected arrangement works surprisingly well and you can see why they provoked so much interest so early in their career. Check out the track below.
