In the mid ’70s, Patti Smith put a knife through the heart of the stereotype of the poet as a serious, tweed-clad, college professor type. Breaking out of the New York punk scene, her first four albums truly rocked without ever having to sacrifice lyrical depth. Wild Thing remind us of the power of Smith’s music with a recent live cover of Radio Ethiopia‘s “Ask The Angels.”
The band, made of up Sleater-Kinney‘s Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss, the Minders’ Rebecca Cole, and Helium’s Mary Timony, provide a roaring take. Brownstein channels Smith perfectly on the vocal, at times looking like she’s about to explode. Check out the video below. (via TwentyFourBit)
