Fact: Hot Chip’s “And I Was A Boy From School” is one of the best opening tracks to, well, anything. Goddamn Electric Bill, Jason Torbert’ one-man electronic/folktronica bedroom project, agrees with one minor correction. In actuality, apparently Jason was a girl from school.

Goddamn Electric Bill switches it up not only with the title, but also by making it entirely instrumental (which makes you wonder why he – she? – changed the title in the first place). It still holds the danceable chill of the original, but adds in bedroom synth lines in place of the vocal melody. While Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor’s vocals hint at the inevitable doom of a relationship, this version leaves less to worry about.
