A few days ago we posted about the ongoing Levi’s Pioneer Sessions, an ongoing cover series that includes Nas, The Swell Season, and She & Him. The fourth installment comes from Dirty Projectors, the weird alt-indie Brooklyn collective whose Bitte Orca had the indie blogs drooling last year. They cover Bob Dylan’s “I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine” and it’s less weird than you might expect.

Singer Dave Longstreth does a decent 1967 Dylan impression, but it’s the trio of backing “oohs” and “aahs” that push it beyond merely reverential. The verse where their wordless moans take over reaches towards sublime. Listen to a stream below (via Vulture) and watch the making-of video. Head over the Levi’s Pioneer Sessions to download the MP3.
